Talkeenta, March 23, 2008
No valid operator’s license
At about 6:50 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1997 Ford F-150 near Mile Six of the Talkeenta
Spur Road for speeding. Investigation revealed an 18-year-old Talkeenta man was operating the vehicle without a valid
driver’s license. He was issued a summons to appear in court for NVOL and two traffic citations. The vehicle was
released to a licensed driver.
Big Lake, March 22
Theft IV/Warrant Arrest
At approximately 3:37 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report of a shoplifter at Steve’s Food Boy in Big Lake.
Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old Wasilla man was caught shoplifting some food items from Steve’s Food Boy
and placed under citizen’s arrest. He was also found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear with an
original charge of Assault IV. He was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was held on $1,750 bail.
Big Lake, March 21
DUI
At approximately 11:41 p.m. the AST South Central DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of
Big Lake Road and South Park Drive in Big Lake for an equipment violation. The operator was identified as a 28-year-old
Houston man. He was found to be operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI. He was
remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. Bail was set at $300.
Petersville/ Shulin Lake Road, March 21
Warrant Arrest/ Agency Assist
Alaska Wildlife Troopers assisted U.S. Marshals in executing felony Federal Arrest Warrants on Shawn Michael Phillips
38, of Anchorage. Phillips had been reported in the Petersville area, and was located in a remote cabin at Mile 2.6 of
Shulin Lake Road. In addition, Phillips’ girlfriend, a 22-year-old Anchorage resident, was also arrested on outstanding
traffic warrants. Phillips was transported to Anchorage by U.S. Marshals. She was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility and held on a cash-only $200 bail.
Willow, March 20
Driving with a suspended license
At approximately 7:37 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Nissan Altima for speeding near
Mile 71 of the Parks Highway in Willow. Investigation revealed that a 22-year-old North Pole man was operating a
vehicle on a suspended driver’s license. He was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where he was held
on $1,000 bail.
Talkeetna, March 19
Burglary 2nd Degree, Theft 2nd Degree
At approximately noon Alaska State Troopers were contacted by a Talkeenta business which had approximately $10,000
of computer equipment stolen since July. The Hewlitt Packard computer equipment consisted of: a server, three 17 inch
flat panel monitors and CPU’s, four laptops and three docking stations. Alaska State Troopers are currently investigating
the theft and anyone with information regarding the stolen equipment, please contact the Alaska State Troopers at 733-

Big Lake, March 19
Improper use of Evidence of Registration
At 4:30 p.m. troopers stopped a vehicle that at the intersection of Johnson Road and Johnson Way in Big Lake. AST
contacted the driver, a 36-year-old Big Lake woman. Investigation revealed that her vehicle, a 1992 Buick LeSabre, had
expired registration. Further investigation revealed that her vehicle displayed a tag from 2008. After running that tag AST
concluded that the tag did not match the vehicle. AST seized the vehicle plates and issued her a summons for improper
use of evidence of registration to appear at a later date as well as a citation for failure to have proof of insurance and
expired registration.
Wasilla, March 18
DUI-Drugs, Reckless Endangerment
A 22-year-old Big Lake woman was arrested at 3 p.m. after troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1987 Ford Tempo
that was reported to as a possible drunk driver near Trunk Road on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Investigation revealed
that she was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. Also in the vehicle was her
infant daughter. She was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, were she was held on $2,500 bail and
subject to a court approved third party release.
Willow, Match 13
Illegal Sale of Moose Antlers
Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Mat-Su West Post, cited a 43-year-old of Willow man for advertising for sale Moose Antlers
on the Internet. He was issued a citation to appear in Palmer Court.
Willow, March 16
Search and Rescue
At approximately 12:47 a.m., Sherringa Holmstrom, 49 of Palmer, reported that her son, Benjamin Holmstrom, 19 of
Palmer, and his cousin, Joshua Baker, 19 of Kodiak, were overdue from a trip to the Hatcher Pass area to check a trap
line. Talkeetna AST and Palmer AST immediately started a search of the Hatcher Pass area but could not locate Benjamin
or Joshua. On 3/16/08 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Benjamin and Joshua were located by a State of Alaska Park Ranger
on Hatcher Pass Road and were transported to safety. Benjamin and Joshua were fine and did not require any medical
assistance. Subsequent investigation revealed that Benjamin and Joshua had driven past the road not maintained sign on
Willow Fishhook Road and had gotten their truck stuck on Hatcher Pass Road. Benjamin and Joshua spent the night in
the truck and were in the process of walking out when they were contacted by the park ranger.
Big Lake, March 16
Burglary I, Theft II, Criminal Mischief III
At approximately 10 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported burglary at a cabin on the West side of Big
Lake. Investigation revealed, sometime within the past 24 hours, a cabin door was forced open and multiple items of
value were stolen. Among the stolen items were; a white Laser-73 Toyostove, 32” Vizio flat panel TV, 19” Magnavox
TV, Gateway laptop computer, Sony CD/DVD player, Sony Playstation 2 console, a set of binoculars, multiple
Playstation games, and various bottles of alcohol. Total estimated value of the stolen items is $3000.00. Total estimated
damage to the cabin is $1,500. Investigation continues, anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact
AST at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
Big Lake, March 15
Disorderly Conduct, Violating Conditions of Release, MCA
At approximately 1:45 a.m. Alaska State Troopers arrested a 19-year-old Big Lake man for disorderly conduct, violating
conditions of release, and minor consuming alcohol after he was contacted on Ronnie Court during a traffic stop. He
was transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded into custody. Bail was set at $2,000 and court
approved third party.
Big Lake March 14
Theft in the Fourth
At 3 p.m. troopers responded to Steve’s Food Boy in Big Lake for a report of a theft. Investigation revealed that a 34-
year-old Big Lake woman concealed merchandise in a bag and left the store without paying for the items. She was issued
a summons to appear in court at a later date and released at the scene.
Willow, March 14
Driving without a license
On March 14 at approximately 3:20 p.m. Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1988 blue Chevrolet Van
near Mile 69 of the Park’s Highway in Willow. Investigation revealed a 60-year-old Willow woman was operating the
vehicle without a driver’s license. She was arrested for Driving without a License and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility, where she was held on $500 bail.
Willow, March 12
Assault Fourth Degree, Interfering with the Report of a DV,
Violating Conditions of Release
On March 12 at approximately 10:24 p.m. troopers responded to a disturbance at a residence off of Montana Creek
Road. Investigation revealed that a 47-year-old Willow man had assaulted a family member by causing her fear of
imminent physical injury. He also took the phone away from the alleged victim when she attempted to call 911. Further
investigation revealed that He was intoxicated, in violation of court ordered conditions of release. He fled the residence
prior to AST’s arrival. AST K-9 Roelle responded to the scene. The suspect was tracked approximately 1/2 mile and was
apprehended by K-9 Roelle while he was hiding in a vehicle. He was arrested and remanded into Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility, where he was held without bail.

Wasilla, March 16
Reckless Endangerment and Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors
At about 12:10 a.m. Alaska State Troopers observed two large logs laid across the southbound lane of the Parks
Highway near the intersection of Stanley Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that a 19-year-old Wasilla man, a 17-
year-old male from Wasilla, a 14-year-old female from Eagle River, and a 14-year-old male from Wasilla had laid the two
logs across the roadway to watch cars hit them. All four subjects were charged with reckless endangerment while the
19-year-old is also being charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors. No injuries or damages were sustained
in the act and all parties were released at the scene with the minors being released to a parent/guardian.
