Bartel Takes National Honor for
VFW Voice Of Democracy Essay

SPECIAL TO THE ALASKA PIONEER PRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Marc Bartel, a senior at Susitna Valley High
School has been named a winner in the 2009 National Voice of
Democracy Program and recipient of the $2,000 Department of
Colorado and its Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Award. Marc plans a
career in law enforcement and he was sponsored by VFW Post 3836
and its Ladies Auxiliary in Talkeetna, Alaska.
The Su Valley High senior's audio essay entry for “Voice of
Democracy” won at local and state levels before going to the national
competition in Washington, D.C.
This year’s theme was “Service and Sacrifice by America’s Veterans
Benefits Today’s Youth by….”
The VFW State Commander presented Marc with his Scholarship at a
gathering held at VFW Post 3836 on Friday March 20. Winning at
State level includes an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. and a
chance to win another $30,000 at the National level.
